THE BOARD AND ITS MISSION The
preservation and operation of the Hyland House is entrusted to the
Board of Directors of the Dorothy Whitfield Historic Society, made
up of five officers and 13 directors, each elected to three-year terms.
The board's mission as outlined in the By-Laws, is:
To preserve and interpret the Hyland House as a significant example of colonial architecture, including the 1916-17 restoration, and as a colonial living environment. Through interpretive programs and exhibits, the DWHS conducts activities that promote knowledge of the Hyland House as a structure and a colonial living environment. The Society develops and implements outreach programs with special emphasis on curriculum-related interpretive activities for Guilford schoolchildren.

PRIVILEGES OF MEMBERSHIP
Perhaps the greatest
joy of belonging to the DWHS is the satisfaction of helping to preserve
one of Guilford's historical treasures and keeping it open to the public.
Beyond that, however, our members enjoy admission to the house all season and invitations to the spring tea in the herb garden, summer picnic, the fall candlelight cocktail party and the annual meeting. Moreover, each member receives a subscription to the society's newsletter, The Hyland House Times.
